Chapter 14

He smiled. “You were so still, I would touch your arm occasionally, just to make sure you were breathing. You sleep like the dead.”

“I’ve noticed I’m pretty much out from the time my head hits the pillow until I wake. I’ve been sleeping ten hours a night since I quit. I’m still tired, though. Maybe that trend will remain until I start to feel better.”

Lindsey chewed a piece of pancake and licked his lips to catch some butter. I wanted to help him. “Obviously you need it. Any ideas as to what you’ll do next? Or are you not even thinking about that yet?”

“I just do things I enjoy, for now. I indulge myself and it feels good. Perhaps something will grow out of that, but as things stand, I’m simply happy being free of self-imposed chains.”

“I hear that.”

We finished our meal a little while later and I helped him set the kitchen to rights.

“How about we go to your apartment, you change and then you show me your favorite parts of the city?”
