“You shouldn’t have to take that whole responsibility yourself,” Amir said. “I get that caring for someone is a full-time task, but if he had someone else to talk to, like a therapist, it could take some weight off your shoulders.” He saw the retort forming on Jae’s lips so he quickly added, “I’m sure you’ve been doing a wonderful job so far, but anyone who rewards that kind of kindness with violence isn’t worth working yourself to the bone for.”
