Chapter 21

As big of a pain as Ken was and amidst all the angst about Jae, Amir was sad to see him go. There had been a time when Amir and Ken loved each other. One of the reasons Ken was able to get under Amir’s skin so much was because he knew Amir in ways most other people didn’t, yet both of them had had trouble living up to the other’s expectations. Amir, for example, had thought Ken was sensible enough to smell trouble when it shat right in front of him, but clearly that wasn’t the case. Still, underneath the sense of “Good riddance” was a pang of regret that it had to end like this.
