“Cops said they’re on their way,” Jake V. said. “Didn’t sound like they were in much of a rush.”
“Did you get everything on camera?” Amir asked.
Jake nodded. “Up to when he threatened to kill everyone.”
A throaty chuckle emanated from the couch. “C’mon, guys,” Declan said hoarsely. “You know I didn’t mean that. You guys caught me off guard, that’s all. I got a little defensive. No harm meant.”
“You tried to punch me, dipshit,” Hayden spat.
“Like I said, I was being defensive.”
Jae gripped Amir’s hand. “He does this,” Jae whispered. “Sometimes his moods flip on a dime. One minute he’s raging and the next he’s sweet and remorseful and full of promises that he’s going to get better.”
“We’re not falling for it,” Amir said loudly enough for Declan to hear him. “You can’t pretend none of that happened. We have it on film. The cops are on their way.” He gritted his teeth in a snarl, though he knew Declan couldn’t see. “You’re finally getting what’s coming to you.”
