Chapter 23

He raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“I’m sorry. It’s just…well, think about it. Your name is Charming and your arm was broken by a horse-riding Prince Charming! That’s so ironic.”

Chad let his head fall back, and he groaned. “Oh, God. Are you seriously that geeky?”

She laughed. “Yep. And speaking of your Prince Charming, how are things going?”

He pinned her with a hard stare. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, you guys see each other all the time. I assumed you were dating.”

“No!” He barked, then realized how loud he had been when heads turned his way. “I’m sorry,” he said a little quieter. “I mean, no, we aren’t dating. I don’t do relationships.” Except maybe I do.

“Why?” she asked, her eyes wide.

“I just don’t. Love isn’t something I believe in. At least not for me. I believe in reality, not fairy tales.” At least not until he met Jeff.

“Charming?”

“Yeah?”

“I hate to break it to you, but you’re ina relationship. It’s even worse than that.” Lydia grinned. “You’re in love.”
