Chapter 35

Bill, whose real name was Amos, was a Hell’s Angel-looking nineteen-year-old whose voice always sounded gravelly, maybe because of the ten to fifteen cigarettes he smoked outside during every rehearsal. I heard him ask AJ if he wanted to hit Telly’s, the diner just down the road from the theater. Apparently, AJ said yes, because they did some sort of bro handshake that looked as if they’d been doing for years. It was a real HRH moment, only AA! Did I have any right to be jealous? No matter the answer, I kind of was.

Amos went outside. AJ headed back toward us.
