“What’s that supposed to mean?”

I answered with a smirk.

“You are still interested in getting on Mr. Red Light, Yellow Lab, Green Eyes, right?”

AJ saved me from having to answer when he came over to join us. Shoving past me to sit next to Major, between us, actually, he was now right across from Abby. “And then there were four. Sorry I didn’t get over here more. I’m not allowed to play favorites, but if I was…” He tapped the tip of Major’s nose just as the lights went off behind the counter. “Well, that’s subtle.” Though AJ had just sat, he was on his feet again. “River or home?”

No one had decided one way or the other by the time we got outside. The air was thick. It was muggy as hell.

“I could get wet,” I said.

Though I was hoping for a skinny dipping party, AJ kept his underwear on. Major stripped down to his this time, so that was nice. Being on stage had given him a confidence boost, it seemed. Or maybe AJ had in the time I’d been away.
