“No.” I answered for him. “Next time. They’re coming to a few more shows.”

“I thought I heard my grandfather cheering for me tonight,” Abby said, “even if all I did was walk across stage and pick up a puppy. ‘Way to go, Abigail!’ I guess you can convince yourself if you really want to.”

“Or maybe you can only hear it if you really listen, if you believe. I hope my dad will come,” AJ said. “Come again, if that tap on the shoulder was real. I’ll open a window. How wonderful it would be if any spirit could visit…say one from London in the 1700s who would feel right at home in the show we’re doing now, or father specifically when I doTwelve Angry Men or To Kill a Mocking Bird?”

“Maybe he will.”

AJ still had one arm wrapped around Abby.

“And Major’s mom and dad.”

Major simply nodded.

“They will.” AJ put the hand from that arm to Major’s heart. “Abby knows, and I believe her.”
