AJ had started the chorus. Major had finished it. I looked at them standing there beside one another and thought about everything they had in common. I flashed back on the flowerbeds and wildflowers in a meadow, the piano and the theater, and also their charitable work. They’d both lost a parent, a hurt I prayed I was a long way from experiencing. I thought about every one of the embraces and the kisses they’d shared. I recalled what they had looked like waking up in each other’s arms.

“The music notes…two halves make a whole,” I said aloud.

“Huh?” Major and AJ exchanged confused glances.
