Chapter 12

“Are you okay?” Bill asked quietly.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Erik replied just as quietly. Then, smiling, he said in a normal tone of voice, “Come on, let’s get things cleared up while the old folks go sit in the living room and relax.”

“Old folks?” Carol gave him a mock glare. “I’ll have you know I’m barely thirty—up here,” she tapped her forehead. “And here.” She put one hand over her heart.

“Same with us,” Mr. Greene said.

“And us,” Mrs. Rawlins said. “Or it will be, when we get to be your ages.”

Roger laughed. “Be that as it may, us single guys will do the cleanup, while the guests, and Bill’s folks, retire to the living room. There’s plenty of movies to watch. I think we even haveFargo.”

“Great. Let’s hope there aren’t any wood chippers around town,” Mr. Greene said with a grin, as the guests, Carol, and Tom headed to the living room.

The three young men then began cleaning up and doing the dishes. When they finished, Roger went to join everyone else in the living room.
