The morning news report on the radio filled the void left by their silence.

As Scott navigated Main Street, the streetlights still aglow, he kept up a silent mantra. At present he didn’t care that he would arrive to work late, his sole focus on seeing Dakota. The nearer they drew to the bakery the more anxious he felt, acutely aware of every beat his heart took. By his side Ren clasped her hands tightly in her lap.

The car cruised to a stop alongside the curb outside of Heavenly Delights.

Scott’s hands slipped from the steering wheel.
