Chapter 61

“We should’ve never come,” Josh said after he caught his breath. “I shouldn’t have begged Eli to bring us here.”

Sully knelt so he was face to face with Josh who slouched in the wheelchair. “Babe, we had to come. You had to find out about him. He looked like he was in shock, so don’t write him off yet. But, if you want to leave, we’ll leave. We’ll tell Eli we’re ready to go home.”

“Did you see that look? He didn’t want to be a father! Eli was wrong. Eli doesn’t know—”

“Eli doesn’t know shit about him, but for everything I think about him, he did this for us.”

Josh sucked in air. “You don’t have a tissue do you?”

Adam appeared from the shadows and took out some pocket tissue he’d carried with him earlier. “I’ve got some.”

Sully stood up straight and eyed Adam warily. “How long were you standing there?”

“Just for a second. Do you mind if I talk to Josh?”
