I can’t resist saying something about her attire, “Well, you look prepared.”
Janice looks at me with a questioning expression. “Prepared? For what?”
Lenore answers for me, “Janice, we just heard there’s a snow storm starting. We need to be prepared. I assume Nikki is referring to that situation…”
Janice looks at me as if I insulted her. Then she removes the towel and shakes out her short brown hair like a dog just out of the bath.
“I see, Nikki. Well, if a storm is coming, we should all start preparing. Maybe we should turn up the heat in case the power goes out. Frank, do you have a generator?”
“No, Janice—I thought about it, but was planning to wait until after the holiday to lay out the money for one. You know this bad weather doesn’t usually pop up until January or so.”
