He went to sit again, but, “She told you to go home, Detective Inspector Carter,” Rollins’s voice drawled from behind him. “Do as she said.” He was standing a little too close, holding a cigarette and watching Alec from behind hooded eyes. “She said she’d talk to Tyler. She’ll do it. Go home.” He watched Alec all the way to the door.
That hadn’t worked out at all how he had thought it would. Although he had no real idea of what he might find out—talking to the sister had been the next logical step. He was even more muddled now than before.
