Chapter 32

I glimpsed him often enough to wonder what would happen if we ever met. He seemed to be a drone, just like me. What would I say? Why should I even try? My track record was reprehensible, and I should probably do the man a favor and not even approach him. Why waste hours of his life, assuming he was interested, when I knew he would likely come to hate me, like all the others? He had never looked out thewindow to catch me staring at him, and that was probably a good thing.

Turning back to my computer, I logged onto the network and concentrated on my own tasks for the day. Hopefully it would take me only ten hours to get things done, and maybe I’d be able to watch something on T.V. that night instead of falling dead asleep again the minute I set foot through the door.

I thought briefly about contacting my mother, but I knew better. I would have to wait for her to make thefirst move.
