Chapter 33

Well, I now knew he went to Quiznos sometimes, not that I’d ever do anything about it. After embarrassing myself like that, I would be eating elsewhere for a while.

Three weeks later, I was walking down the sidewalk toward the train station after nine in the evening when I heard someone screaming, “Help!”

I looked to my right into an alley with low lighting and also heard what sounded like a struggle. I ran toward the scuffle, thinking I was an idiot, and as I got closer, my eyes adjusted. I saw a woman struggling with a man about twice her size. Before I could do anything, she kneed the guy in the groin and bit his arm hard, causing him to swear and let go.

“Hey!” I called, startling both of them.

The woman ran toward me, and I recognized Lisa.

The guy was truly pissed off, even though he was doubled over, swearing up a storm.
