Chapter 4

Amery laughed, taking Myles hand. “Just in case you get any ideas.”

They walked to the bar without further conversation. It was the one Myles had thought it would be. As Amery had said, most of the patrons were staring at TV sets, urging on their favorite team, which since this was Denver, was the Rockies. Amery made a beeline for the only empty table, well back in a corner with a lousy view of any of the TV sets. Probably why it wasn’t in use, Myles figured.

“Beer or something else?” Amery asked. “I’m buying.”

“Beer’s fine,” Myles replied, telling the waitress what kind when she came over. Despite the crowd, she quickly returned with their drinks. After taking a long pull on his, Myles said, “Okay, why are we here?”

Amery leaned forward, his elbows on the table. “I have a proposition for you.”

Myles barely smiled. “Sex in exchange for you keeping your mouth shut?”
