Chapter 45

“Hey, Jason. How’re you holding up?” He must have said those words a dozen times by now. John was sick of saying them. The phrase made the whole situation seem like a death bed vigil and that was the last thing any of them needed. Life was already difficult enough.

“I’m good,” Jason responded. Worry coiled in his heart at his lover’s breathless voice. “I’m having a hard time ignoring the alarm though. Can’t get the fucking thing to shut off.” Jason chuckled.

At least, there was something he could manage, besides stand and watch like an idiot. “You remember the time we went down to Windansea and had to run from those bike cops when they found me sucking you offbehind the rocks?”

“Oh yeah, that was awesome.” Jason giggled like a kid over the line, oblivious to the rest of the crew probably listening in. “It was June a couple years back, wasn’t it?”
