Chapter 29

“I also came to tell you that if Rox is agreeable, we’ll be leaving. I’m severing my relationship with you as of this day, even this moment, Dad. When you tried to kill me, that did it. Added to all the things I said you were, you are also incapable of love. But I can’t hate you for it. I can only feel sorrow for you because you’ll die without ever having known what it was to love and to have someone love you. The world you live in must be very cold, Dad. I’d hate to live in it. Thank God I got out before it got its claws into me as well. So, I guess this is good-bye.”

“This isn’t the end, Dezi.”

“I’m afraid it is, Dad,” Dezi said as he turned to leave.

“No. We haven’t heard from Rox yet.”

Dezi stopped in his tracks when he felt an icy chill dance eerily down his spine. He knew that his dad never said a word he didn’t mean, and this one was a threat.

He was sure of it.
