Sable looked back at Storm. “What’s going on here?”


“Sable, the truth is we expected you to sleep in and rest a little. Riding, like everything else on a ranch, is hard. You’re new at this and a woman as well. It’s okay if you want to take a little time for yourself. You did very good yesterday, and I’m proud of you.”


“I’m a woman?” Sable asked as her eyes narrowed on Storm. “A woman? And women have to be coddled and cared for because they can’t do as much as a man. Is that right?” She turned and looked at all of them and said, “Well, fuck you!”


“I can do anything you can do and probably do it a damned sight better.” Suddenly, she pushed her plate away and said, “C’mon, get the hell up from there, boys, and let’s get to work!”
