“It’s very upscale,” Mattie told him, “and beautiful. It would have to be, or Nina wouldn’t be living there.”
“Oh boy, the snake in the woodpile.” Dirk shook his head. “I should have known there’d be a catch. Her watching over me there, Tonio watching when we’re at work. Do either of you know a nice safe hideaway where no one can find me if I don’t want them to?”
“Aww, poor you,” Mattie said, patting Dirk’s knee. “You’ll like Nina, when you meet her. She’s…well…fun.”
“If you say so. Is there a reason no one’s suggested she join the team?”
“I think so. She’s a healer, and has told me more than once she wants nothing to do with harming anyone, no matter that our reasons are honorable. Besides,” Mattie grinned. “She’s not about to let Tonio boss her. Sibling rivalry, I guess.”
At that point Bay pulled to a stop in front of a small house surrounded by trees and flowers. Dirk lookedat it in amazement, murmuring, “Mattie, if this is your place I’ll trade you.”
