“Because Geoffrey’s a clever bastard,” Tonio replied. “Anyone searching for a secret entrance would presume its trigger would be in an enclosed space in the house or the garage. So he puts it out in the open instead. We can figure moving the nymph would take a fair amount of strength, if anyone even thought to try. It wouldn’t do for a gardener working in the yard, or even a guest or Camilla, to bump into it by accident and have it turn.”
“Strength or a spell,” Mattie said. “No, not a spell. Camilla might have sensed an aura of magic around it, as would any guest who had magic powers. The same would go for any hidden entrance. It would have to have a physical trigger.”
“Okay, back to where the entrance is, if the nymph is the trigger. What about the wall around the grounds?”
Bay tapped his fingers together. “Possible. It’s serpentine, so there could be a place in the ground within one of the curves that would be hidden from view if it shifted.”
