Sartin’s amber eyes told his mother and the rest of the Sea People he was destined to become a great protector. Finding his mate at his twenty-third Winter Meeting, Sartin is overjoyed at finally being able to assume his destined role with Sommar by his side.<br><br>However, a freak storm soon takes Sartin far away from Winter Cove, and an injury to his tail prevents him from returning. Even worse, he can no longer hear the songs of his pod and his mate in his head.<br><br>Sartin finds love and acceptance from Maru, a member of the Land People, who nurses him back to health. Songs of the Sea

“Did you eat all your dinner?” Sartin asked, grinning mischievously.


“They ate everything they were given, Sartin,” Baham said. “Do you mind? I need to go for a swim.”


“If they ate all their dinner, then yes, it is time for a story,” Sartin said. He always played with the children after the evening meal to give the adults a chance to rest.


“Yes!” Beltram chimed in. He looked just like his father, Wickizer.


“How about I tell you a story tonight?”


Wickizer’s menacing voice startled Sartin and the children. Bertig, Thornton’s son, sat across Sartin’s lap as Wickizer began the story.


A long time ago, after the land people drove the Sea People away from the land, a warrior was born named Kirklin. We remember him as Kirklin because he was the greatest warrior who ever lived among the Sea People.
