Maru groaned and put his hand beneath the hide. He pushed down whatever was sticking up, but left his hand there. The orb was covered again.
Sartin’s companion woke with a start. He removed his hand from his waist. Maru sat up and turned away from Sartin. Maybe land people considered it rude for another to watch them sleep?
As usual, Maru stood and disappeared into the jungle. Sartin sat up and looked at his tail. He lifted his fluke out of the pool. The ferns had worked overnight and the pain had lessened. Sartin took a handful of wilted leaves from the day before and chewed them into the sweet paste he could swallow. Theydidn’t taste as pleasing as they did when they were used on the same day as they were picked. He used the last of the leaves to create the bitter poultice to put on his fluke. He would need to figure out a way to ask Maru for a bandage of some sort.
