Chapter 42

Sleep and fatigue settled into Sartin. He returned to the shore, but stayed in the shallow water. He rolled over on his back and fell asleep with his tail flicking.

Sometime later, Sartin woke with a start. Although still very dark, Samsel had made his way across the night sky. An eerie stillness filled the lagoon. Whether Maru wanted him near or not, Sartin headed for the safety of the shore.

He turned around and moved toward the shore when his tail tripped over something underneath the water. Too dark to see, even with Samsel in his full glory, the distress signal sounded in his head. Maru would be upset that Sartin disturbed his sleep again.

Sartin side stroked to the right a bit and swam toward the shore again. A blunt object butted him from behind. Two sharks broke the surface of the water, sharp teeth chomping in the dark. The previous events of the shark and storm raced through his mind as he frantically searched for the beach in the dark night.
