Chapter 52

“He saved my life,” Sartin said from the shallow water. Only his torso showed above the water.

“What tribe are you from?” Another of the humans spoke.

“I am Sartin from the Pod Belzer.”

The other humans laughed.

“The Pod Belzer?”

Sartin didn’t like the third land person’s tone when he repeated his words.

“Leave him alone!” Maru shouted and shook himself loose from the tallest of the land people. “Sartin, turn around and swim away before they get you.”

Maru’s desperate look melted Sartin’s heart. “Get me? What do you mean?” Sartin moved closer onto the beach and met Maru, who fell on his knees in the sand and wrapped his arms around Sartin. Maru’s tear stained cheek pressed into Sartin. The waves receded and revealed his tail.

“Kamohoali’i!” the fourth land person who had not yet spoken proclaimed the name that Maru first called him when he woke on the other island.

Maru broke his embrace and watched the four humans immediately drop to their knees and bow in the sand.
