Chapter 56

“It’s not seawater, it’s fresh water from the land.” Sartin said once they set him down in it. “Butit is better than nothing.”

Sartin swam the rest of the way and when he arrived back to his hut, the entire village cheered at his return.

“We shall feast again in honor of the great Kamohoali’i!” the chief exclaimed at Sartin’s approval.

“But we have no meat,” Wikolia said.

“Now that the men are done digging, we will hunt for food from the sea,” Sartin said.

The entire tribe shouted in encouragement of the idea. Buoyed by the enthusiasm from the other villagers, even Kekoa, Akoni, Moana, and Bane joined in the fishing expedition. After the party grabbedtheir fishing nets, Sartin shot down the water-filled trench toward the sea while the men ran along the side of the canal. Once they reached the beach, everyone swam to the outer islands.
