The room turned black and Sartin fell into another dark, dreamless sleep.
* * * *
Sartin opened his eyes but couldn’t make out anything in the dark. His eyes adjusted, slowly, to the candle lit room. The stiff wooden boards of the platform chaffed his stomach and chest this time, not his backside. His arms were stretched out on either side of him the chains pulled tight. Although he couldn’t move his arms, the chains that spread them from his body were heavier than the ones used before. Another cuff and chain, stronger than before, pulled his tail taught as well. Pain radiated from his left side.
Sartin’s mouth was so dry, he couldn’t form any words. He turned his head to the side to see Tobydallum sitting in the room.
“Water for drink,” Sartin croaked.
