The Distress signal woke Sartin. He jumped only as far as his tethers would allow. He shook his head and Sommar’s song rang clear and strong in his head.
“Wake up, wake up, wake up.” He must be dreaming, if only he could wake himself up and clear the alarming sound from his head.
Sartin shook his head. Sommar’s song and the Distress signal remained. In addition, Sartin heard the same bell he’d heard on the day he was captured. Shouts and shrieks came from beyond the door. Above him, the soft thud of bodies hitting the deck and even…tails swishing about filled the air of his smallcabin.
Had Sommar returned to rescue him?
The door crashed open and Tobydallum rushed in.
“Your people have come to liberate you!” he shouted as he rushed to Sartin’s side. He pulled a ring of keys from his belt and unlocked the cuffs and collars that restrained Sartin to the platform.
“What are you doing? I thought I was worth ‘rewarded generously’ by your pod leader?”
