“He can. Not major changes, he cannot move the mountains, as much as I am certain that frustrates him. He can however create new passes and destroy old ones. And, as you have seen, he can destroy the land itself.”

“This man must be slain,” Castien growled angrily.

“That is not why we are here,” Theirn told him. A tiny smile quirked his lips as he repeated the admonition Castien had given him just a day earlier.

“In truth it is not, but perhaps we have in front of us someone who feels the same and might be willing to join forces with us to achieve that end.”

Lain stated adamantly, “He cannot be killed.”

“Anything, any creature, can die,” Castien told him in reply.

“Not him. Many have tried over time. Their bones rot in graves, in fields, even in the mines with those who have died under the whips of his overseers. He still lives.”

“He is human.”

“No, I believe he may be more than human now.”
