Chapter 41

“Then we are ready,” Lain stated as he and Alassiel moved into the deeper shadows of the grove.

“Almost,” Theirn replied and held out his hands. Lain returned long enough to take a length of rope from his pouch. He tied it around Theirn’s wrists and handed the end to Castien. “Now we are ready.”

“May the gods watch over you. We shall see you at the seaside hut when you arrive,” Lain told them. “There all will be readied as we planned.”

“The gods willing, you shall,” Castien answered.Chapter 22

“What do you mean she will die?” Beleg said just loudly enough the sentries who stood at the edge of the soldiers’ camp could overhear him.

Castien appeared to speak more softly after he cast a worried glance toward the camp. Beleg nodded and then lowered his voice to reply. Castien gave a sharp tug on the rope binding Theirn’s hands and the lad pretended to stumble before moving in a weakened gait to catch up to them.
