Chapter 10

Mac slid onto a stool and opened the bag, revealing two oversized, fresh cinnamon rolls. Within minutes, they were sipping coffee, eating, and chatting away as if they’d known each other forever. For the first time in a long time, Kevin felt pure happiness bubble up in his chest. He needed or wanted nothing more than to start his day with Mac, every day. While that thought should’ve shocked him, it didn’t. If anything, it gave him a sense of peace.

Mac grinned again as he wiped some of the cream-cheese frosting off the side of Kevin’s mouth with his thumb. When he sucked it off, a small gasp escaped Kevin’s lips.

Mac’s eyes crinkled as he laughed. “Your hair is sticking up all over, Kev. Did I wake you?”

Kev. Fuck if that didn’t make him tremble. Until Mac, no one had ever called him by a pet name. He patted down his bed hair, which only managed to make Mac laugh more. He finally gave up and took another bite of his cinnamon roll.
