“Did you see it?”

“It-it was-mine,” she declared.

“Wow. That was sure nice of you!”

She furrowed her brow in confusion.

Kevin felt just as confused and squeezed his hand, but Mac continued. “That lady bug was looking for her family, and when she landed on the balloon, she said she was too tired to fly anymore.”

The little girl looked to the sky and a smile played at the woman’s lips. She appeared too old to be her mother, but Kevin wasn’t going to try to guess.

“Oh, yeah. Sure was nice of you to let her ride the balloon home. She really missed her mommy and grandma.”

The girl looked back and forth between Mac and Kevin, as if trying to decide whether to believe him or not, until a smile slowly spread across her face. “You really heard her say that?”

“I sure did. Didn’t you, Kev?”

“Oh, yeah. Sure did.”

“Well, we’re going to keep walking, but I just had to tell you how awesome I think you are for helping that poor little lady bug.”

She grinned and waved.
