He waited for me to say something, and when I didn’t, looked disappointed. Asher seemed to rally, however. “Here are my numbers, should you want to contact me.” He took out his wallet and handed over a thick, well-made business card. “And thanks for considering doing our mural. I was always impressed with your work, and I’ve been watching your progress and rise to fame over the years.” He smiled. “You’re gifted, Kayle, and though in the past I’d say you’re wasted on this town, now I think you’re just perfect.” He kissed my hairy cheek, then stepped away as his cell began to ring. “See you later,” he added as he walked briskly to his truck, already placating whoever was on the phone.
