The two of them swapped stories from previous calving seasons. Cole thought he could impress Jamison with tales of the few twin births he had assisted on, but Jamison beat him with a story about one year that two cows had given birth to twins within a week of each other. Only one of those calves was still in their herd, now a full-grown cow at the age of three. Cole did earn a low whistle of appreciation from Jamison when he told him about chasing off a mountain lion that had decided it had had enough of mule deer and wanted to snatch itself a steak dinner.
