Chapter 12

“Maybe not for a guy that can’t surf, but I can ride those waves easily.”

Brody’s crowd cheered and clapped. His lips twisted into a smug smile, and he lifted his chin. The crowd behind Brody rumbled with encouragement, and it only lifted the corners of his mouth higher. They fed confidence into him, and he flashed them smiles, and laughed to himself.

Trent stepped forward shaking his head. “Come on, the red flags are up, go home, come back tomorrow.”

“The red flags are up, but you can’t physically stop me from going into the sea.”

“It would be stupid.” Trent said.

“Don’t call me stupid, you don’t know me.” Brody snapped.

Trent flapped his hand at the thickening cloud, then the unsettled sea. “Going in there is the definition of stupid.”

Brody spoke over his shoulder. “Do you think I’m stupid?”

Reece stood closest and slammed his hand down on Brody’s shoulder. “Course not, we know you can do it.”
