Chapter 15

“I was doing my job.”

Trent shook his head, and his damp dreadlocks whipped left to right. “It was too dangerous to go in there. Protocol is to call the coast guard.”

“By the time they arrived, he would’ve been lost under the waves.”

“So might you. You could’ve been swept under too Finn. You put yourself at risk to save him—

“That’s what we’re supposed to do.”

“No! We are not supposed to put ourselves in danger. That is not our job. You have a hero complex and it won’t end well unless you control it. You put yourself at risk, rather than following protocol.”

Finn cocked his jaw and shook his head. “It all worked out in the end.”

“That is not the point. The sea was dangerous, both of us agreed. If someone chooses to swim in those conditions, we have a responsibility to alert the coast guard, not make their job more difficult by swimming in and getting ourselves into trouble.”

“I couldn’t leave him Trent.”
