Chapter 16

“I’ve got someone here to see you.”

Brody didn’t reply. The nurse turned, gave Finn a reassuring smile, then walked off down the corridor.

Brody scrambled to hide the magazine he had been reading and shoved it under the blanket. The color had returned to his cheeks, and his lips were no longer on the stomach churning side of pale. His hair was fluffed up, no longer curled at the tips, but sticking in all different directions. Finn closed his eyes and exhaled slowly. Life, there was so much life in Brody, and the relief had him swaying and reaching for the rail of the bed.

“Finn?”

He opened his eyes at his quietly spoken name and shot Brody a smile.

“Are you okay?” Brody asked.

Finn shook his head. “That’s my line, not yours.”

Brody looked down at himself. There were no tubes going into his body, just a clip on his finger that was attached to the monitor. “I’m fine, they’re keeping me in for observation. I have a minor concussion.”

“Is that all?”
