Chapter 42

“You wanna try getting on it?”

Brody pursed his lips. “I want you to try.”

“But I can’t surf.”

“I’m gunna teach you.”

“This sounds like the worst idea ever.”

* * * *

Finn knew he couldn’t surf. He had tried years ago, but didn’t have the balance or coordination for it. Brody was convinced he could teach him, but that confidence vanished an hour into their lesson.

Brody rested the board against the steps, then strolled back into the sea. He was shirtless, and Finn couldn’t help but marvel at him. His hair had curled in the way that sent butterflies coursing through Finn’s body, and his lips were lifted in a smile. There was no hesitation in his approach to the sea, no sign of his body freezing up, and no sign of fear. Finn wasn’t seeing the beach brat, or the traumatized surfer, he was seeing Brody.

Brody collapsed back into the waves and drifted over to Finn.

“Why are you smiling like that, you suck at surfing.”

Finn tipped his head back and laughed. “I did warn you.”
