Chapter 24

Travis headed for the pharmacy and the drugs but got confused with all of them and gave up. He figured even if he found some drugs for Grandpa, they’d run out in time. Maybe he would be better off without drugs. Then he went to the display for reading glasses. He grabbed several pairs of them with different but increasing strengths. He put them in a bag and felt good. Then they grabbed some first aid items and bandages. He knew Grandpa had a lot, but they would be good to have on hand.

Winston grabbed drinks in bottles, and they loaded everything into the car. Then they took off for the hardware store a half mile down on Highway 42. The doors were open, and again, they called out but got no response.

Travis said, “I feel bad raiding the businesses.” Then he slapped his forehead. “Hey, across the way, they have a furniture store. I bet there’s a new couch we can get for Grandpa.”

“Hell, yes! Let’s do that first.”
