Chapter 14

With admirable control, the alpha snarled, “Leave. Now.”

The man left. He kept glaring over his shoulder in a pathetic attempt to reassert his superiority, but he left.

Once the guard was out of sight, Grant knelt, removed the handcuffs, and dropped them and the key into his pocket. He cupped Rafe’s face in both palms.

The touch was so gentle and felt so safe, Rafe relaxed and leaned his aching head on those large, capable hands.

“Rafael, how badly are you injured? They have an infirmary. Should I try to get someone here?”

Rafe sighed and forced himself to move away from Grant’s hands. The adrenaline had all but dissipated, leaving him trembling and weak. “I’ll be okay. Just get me to the dorm—I need to lie down.” Rafe expected to be assisted to his feet. But apparently in alpha-speak,I need to lie downmeant something more. He found himself swung upwards and deposited like a bride in the arms of the alpha.

Heat rushed to his cheeks as he protested, “Hey, I can walk.”
