Chapter 11

He turned the page to finish reading and froze. There were pictures of all four victims and one of them he knew, or had at least met. He was the man whose phone number now sat on top of his dresser. The caption under the picture asked that anyone who knew the man contact the police.

“Sir,” he heard someone say and he realized he’d reached the front of the line. He put his purchases on the conveyer belt, paid for them when they’d been rung up and quickly left the store. He practically threw the bags into the trunk of his car then went straight home. Once he had everything in the kitchen, he began putting things away at the same time that he dialed the police. As soon as he’d stated his business, he was transferred twice until he finally reached a man who said he was the detective in charge of the case. 8
