Chapter 30

Hell, he couldn’t get them off any of the times he’d seen the man who had broken through the barriers he’d so carefully erected to hide his sexuality even from himself. Monday and Tuesday he’d gone through the normal routines involved in shutting down a closed case and dealing with the new ones the lieutenant had assigned him. He knew Abbie wanted to question him about Vanni and did his best to avoid it happening, to no avail. She finally cornered him at the coffee machine when no one else was around.

“So?” she had said, one dark eyebrow arched in question.

“So what?”

She rolled her eyes. “How’s Vanni doing?”

Hollis had shrugged. “Fine as far as I know.”

“You’re going to make me drag this out of you, aren’t you?”

“Nothing to drag. I did like you wanted, went to check up on him, he looked okay considering what happened to him. I told him to get some rest and left.”
