“I came,” Jared said to him with urgency.
“What?” David asked.
“I came. I came to South Korea. Pusan,” Jared said. “It has a different name now by the way.”
“What do you mean? I never saw you. How could you have come to Pusan? They had already filled your job.”
“It was about six months after you left. I went by the office, the main one for the company that hired you. I told them that I was a friend of yours, and that I was visiting South Korea. I said that I was in Pusan for the day and that I wanted to see you. They gave me the name and address of the school. I got there sometime after lunch, and I waited outside, across the street. There were some benches, and a cart that sold food.”
“Why didn’t you come in?”
“I wanted to see you. A couple of hours later, a horde of smiling children practically ran from the building. They were in uniforms. It was such a beautiful day.”
“I loved the afternoons there,” David said.
