“If you’re done flirting, Romeo, we need to get closed down,” Maddie said as she clapped his shoulder.
“Hey! I can’t help it, sis.” He stared into chocolate brown eyes identical to his own. “Did you see him? He’s adorable.”
“Yeah, but he looks a little…sweet.” She pressed her lips together and shook her head. “I know you, Callum. You’re the old ‘love ‘em and leave ‘em’ kind, and that guy…he’s tenderhearted. You can just tell by the way he looks at you, Cal.”
That surprised him. “How does he look at me?”
She gave him a soft smile. “Like you’re some kind of celebrity and he’s just happy to be in your orbit. He reminds of me of the boys—and girls—in high school that followed you around like puppies. You didn’t notice them, but everyone else did. And now…just don’t hurt him.”
“You don’t even know him, Maddie,” he said, feeling a little attacked. “Idon’t even know him.”
She squeezed his upper arm. “But I know you.”
