The door opened, admitting another nurse and the emergency room physician into the exam room. The man panicked at the sudden intrusion and thrashed his body, the knife lashing out and striking Brynn. The burning didn’t register until she hit the floor, a searing pain emanating across her torso and upper arms. There was movement around her, screaming, orders being shouted out by unseen individuals. Brynn felt as if she were choking, the pain and the sickly metallic smell of her own blood clouding her thoughts. Someone grabbed her beneath the arms, dragging her from the room.
