He gestured for Nikki to sit but she shook her head as she stepped up to his desk and unceremoniously plopped the thin yellow envelope on his desk. He glanced down at it before peering up at her incredulously. “What’s this?”


She lifted a dark eyebrow. “My letter of resignation.”


They stared at one another for a few moments before he chuckled with a shake of his head. He met her eyes and his smile vanished. “You’re serious?” Nikki nodded, her face devoid of emotion. “You’re making a mistake,” he added, his face contorting with irritation.
