Her brother reached across the table and gently clasped her wrist. She looked up and met his concerned gaze. “Contrary to what you obviously believe, you aren’t a bad person. You deserve happiness just as much as the next person,” he said, letting go of her arm. “I’m sure you want a break on relationships to figure out what the next step in your career is but, please, for the love of God, don’t become like our parents,” he added and they both broke out in raucous laughter.

Her phone buzzed across the nurse’s station desk and Brynn quickly plucked it off the hard surface to silence the racket. She looked down the see a message from an unknown number.
