Chapter 102

I watched as Frank jogged down the loose gravel and grabbed Harry by the elbow, making him stop. I left them to their discussion and turned to go into the house. I could hear the boys at the back, arguing over something.

“Enjoy your time in town?” I asked Felix casually as I sauntered into the kitchen to make sandwiches and snacks for six people. Good thing I always bought extra.

“Yeah, it was great. Everybody loved him and he seems to fit in well.”

“I see,” I replied absently as I cut thin slabs of roast beef on a plate, then prepared some gravy. I would slice the sourdough bread in a minute.

“He’s considering staying here permanently, which I think would be great! He has some ideas for the farm and he’s handy with a wrench, which means he can take over the mechanical side of things, since I’m shit for brains on that. It will be so great to have a partner who I can work with…” He stopped gushing when he saw the expression on my face. “What’s wrong?”
