Chapter 54

Yashiv couldn’t tear his eyes away, couldn’t keep the shocked expression from his face.

Run, he wanted to shout. Get out of here!He cursed his selfish desire, his greedy prayer. Now Cassian would be rounded up along with them.

The captain noticed Yashiv’s gaze and stared over his shoulder to where Master stood.

“You, girl,” the captain said. “You shouldn’t be here to witness this. Get back inside.” He turned back to Yashiv. “I didn’t realize desert people were so respectful of women.”

Yashiv nearly sighed in relief, realizing the captain misunderstood the fear on his face. Hopefully Cassian would have the sense to leave.

Of course, he didn’t.

“But Captain,” Cassian said, his voice softer than normal. “I was sent to bring you this refreshment.”

“I’m busy, girl,” he said, turning to look at Master.

“No one knew you were busy, Captain. But if I return with this undelivered, I will be punished.”

The captain growled in frustration. “Set it down there and go.”
